Intended Audience

 

Professionals and students at the graduate level majoring in school psychology, clinical psychology, counseling, and rehabilitation. Teachers of children with special needs also may benefit from attending the workshop.

 

Abstract

 

This workshop will cover Assessment of Children: Cognitive Foundations and Applications (Sixth Edition). It will focus on (a) tests that assess intelligence, achievement, and language, (b) issues related to the construct of intelligence, (c) how to be an effective evaluator, (d) how to write a meaningful psychological or psychoeducational report, and (e) major issues associated with federal laws dealing with children with special needs and with testifying as an expert witness in due process hearings and in civil litigation.

 

Learning Objectives

 

  • Participants will learn about  how to be an effective evaluator
  • Participants will learn about several tests of intelligence, tests of achievement, and tests of language development and intelligence theory
  • Participants will learn how to write a meaningful psychological or psychoeducational report
  • Participants will learn about major issues associated with federal laws dealing with children with special needs
  • Participants will learn about testifying as an expert witness in due process hearings and in civil litigation

Presenter

 

 

 

Jerome Sattler is a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology of the American Board of Professional Psychology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at San Diego State University. In 1998 he received the Senior Scientist Award from the Division of School Psychology of the American Psychological Association. In 2003, he received an honorary Doctor of Sciences degree from Central Missouri State University. In 2005, he received the Gold Medal Award for Life Achievement in the Application of Psychology from the American Psychological Foundation. In 2006, he received the Distinguished Contribution to Psychology Award from the San Diego Psychological Association and a Distinguished Visiting Professor Award from the Colorado School of Professional Psychology. In 2014, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Azusa Pacific University. In 2015, he received The 1949 Award from the Clinical Psychology Program at the University of Kansas (1949 is the year the program at KU received approval from the American Psychological Association)  given to distinguished alumni for outstanding contributions to clinical psychology.

 His books include Assessment of Children: Cognitive Foundations and Applications (Sixth Edition), Foundations of Behavioral, Social, and Clinical Assessment of Children (Sixth Edition), Assessment of Children, Cognitive Applications (Fifth Edition), Assessment of Children: WISC–V AND WPPSI–IV (with Ron Dumont and Diane L. Coalson), Assessment with the WAIS–IV (with Joseph J. Ryan), and Clinical and Forensic Interviewing of Children and Families. He has published over 100 articles in the fields of school and clinical psychology and is a co-author of the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale: Fourth Edition. The first five editions of Assessment of Children have been translated into Spanish. In 2007, a Spanish translation and a Chinese translation (brief edition) of Assessment of Children, Behavioral, Social, and Clinical Foundation (Fifth Edition) were published.

 

 

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT

 

The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists.  This workshop is offered for six (6.0) hours of CE Credit.  Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits.  Partial credit will not be awarded, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits.  PAA maintains responsibility for the program.

 

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY:

 

Cancellation and refunds may be applied for by writing to the PAA office.  Cancellations received fourteen (14) days prior to the Continuing Education activity will receive a full refund of the registration fee, less a $25.00 + gst processing fee.  PAA reserves the right to cancel any activity, in which case a full refund of the registration fee will be provided.
