Applied Sport Psychology:  Performance On Demand

Intended Audience:


This integrated and hands-on practical workshop is intended for those interested and working in competitive sport and performance.  Whether you are a coach, athlete, or part of the integrated support team (IST) of mental performance consultants, psychologists, strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists, athletic therapists or medical team, applying the principals of sport psychology and in particular, psychological skills training practices, within your role, will contribute to athletes’ overall functioning and peak performance.


Learning Objectives:


  • To learn the benefits of sport and performance psychology in high-pressure environments.
  • To learn and practice mental skills training to boost confidence, manage motivation, develop resiliency, manage self-regulation and activation, manage energy levels, increase self-awareness, and mentally be ready to perform under pressure.
  • To recognize common pitfalls which prevent peak performance.
  • To discuss ethical considerations in the delivery of sport psychology services.
  • To be familiar with the pathway to professional competency in the field of sport psychology – mental performance consultancy.

  • How do we integrate mental skills training into the everyday training environment?
  • Self-Awareness, Self-Talk, and Motivation         



  • Self-Regulation, Activation Levels and Energy Management.
  • Mental Readiness for Competition
  • Resiliency Training – dealing with the agony and ecstacy of sport.
  • Ethical considerations
  • How to become a mental performance consultant or develop a professional competency in sport psychology.

Susan Cockle is a registered psychologist with more than two decades of experience counselling younger adults, youth and children.  She has a BA (Special) in Psychology from the University of Alberta, a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, and is a Mental Performance Consultant with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association.  Since 1995, Susan has managed a private practice in Edmonton, and currently works with all levels of athletes and coaches, from recreational youth to senior Olympic level.  She is the founder of C4Success, an online mental skills training company dedicated to providing courses to improve overall psychological skill development and performance.  She has prepared athletes, in both team and individual sports, to compete in the past 3 Olympic Games.






The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA) is approved by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) to offer Continuing Education (CE) for psychologists.  This workshop is offered for six (6.0) hours of CE Credit.  Full attendance at the workshop is required to receive Continuing Education Credits.  Partial credit will not be awarded, and late arrivals or early departure will preclude awarding of Continuing Education Credits.  PAA maintains responsibility for the program.




Cancellation and refunds may be applied for by writing to the PAA office.  Cancellations received fourteen (14) days prior to the Continuing Education activity will receive a full refund of the registration fee, less a $25.00 + gst processing fee.  PAA reserves the right to cancel any activity, in which case a full refund of the registration fee will be provided.
