Commitment to Employees earns Associated Engineering Healthy Workplace Award
The Psychologists’ Association of Alberta has awarded the 2005 Healthy Workplace Initiative Award to Associated Engineering Group Ltd.
“This annual award was presented May 13, at the Awards Banquet held in conjunction with the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta 2005 Annual Conference. Associated Engineering was recognized for their outstanding contribution to the well-being and psychological health of their employees,” says Dr. Sally Barros, President of the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta.
“This is an outstanding award for the staff of Associated Engineering and is a tribute to them. This success is a result of our staff embracing the wellness concept and developing the various programs that are an integral part of our Wellness Plan that helps to create a healthy workplace,” says Alistair Black, President and CEO of Associated Engineering.
Associated Engineering has an aggressive program that builds on the company’s corporate culture of involvement of employees and their families in activities for employee growth and development. The company’s attitude of respect for employees and their commitment to health and wellness and community means many employees have been on staff for a great deal of time—some have over 30 to 40 years of service.
The company’s Wellness Operating Plan includes objectives and implementation strategies for: enhancing morale and attitude of staff; decreasing amount of sick leave, decreasing employee turnover, increasing the use of the company fitness allowance and increasing participation in wellness. “These are all attributes of a healthy workplace,” adds Barros.
“In Associated Engineering’s case it is easy to see how a commitment to a healthy workplace has contributed to long term stable growth and profitability for the company. 60 years in business and 450 employees in over 13 locations certainly attests to that,” exclaims Barros.
The Awards Committee had a difficult task picking just one winner. Honourable mention is given to: QUIKCARD, Alberta Pensions Administration Corporation, Meyers Norris Penney LLP-Lethbridge Region and Green Acres Foundation for Housing for Seniors.
