Notice to PAA Members: A continuing education reciprocity agreement between the PAA, the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA) and the Psychological Society of Saskatchewn (PSS) has been entered into between our respective associations offering registration to the three associations' respective continuing education programs at the same fees that each of these associations would charge to their own members.

Same Sex Domestic Violence Workshops

A one day workshop offered four times a year and geared for service providers to sensitize them to the unique issues faced by individuals involved in an intimate same-sex relationship that involves domestic violence.

The workshop is recognized by the Alberta College of Registered Social Workers for a total of 6(six), category "A", continuing competency credits.

Toxic Divorce: A Workbook for Alienated Parents – Kathleen M. Reay, Ph.D.
 
If your clients are undergoing the devastating effects of a high battle divorce, Toxic Divorce: A Workbook for Alienated Parents provides up-to-date scientific knowledge, understanding, real-life examples, step-by-step directions, and powerful strategies to deal with the ramifications of parental alienation (PA) or parental alienation syndrome (PAS). Toxic Divorce is a must read for clinicians. Families where PA and PAS exist are not a matter of business as usual; entirely different therapeutic skills are needed. Therapists who are not trained in the special techniques that these families require often fall into the trap of believing the alienating parent and the programmed child and make the egregious mistake of contributing to the problem.

Brain Health Symposium in Alberta

The Brain Health Symposium will provide information to Albertans in maintaining their mental and general health through various stages of life. The symposium is being offered free of charge in both Edmonton and Calgary as a way of raising awareness of neuroplasticity among healthcare professionals.

Presenters at the symposium include Dr. Norman Doidge, author of The Brain that Changes itself. Dr. Doidge is a world renowned expert and advocate of neuroplasticity. His book condenses recent research and thinking on the subject and has stimulated awareness and research on the topic.

Also presenting at the symposium will be Suzette Brémault-Phillips, Dr. Catherine Phillips and Dr. Peter Wass. Suzette Brémault-Phillips is a registered occupational therapist specializing in adults with mental health and addictions issues. Catherine Phillips practices mindfulness-based stress reduction and beneficial effects on a number of medical and non-medical conditions. Peter Wass, is a neuropsychologist with a variety of clinical and research interests, including brain injuries, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and dual diagnosis.
