Same Sex Domestic Violence Workshops

About the Presenter
Dr. Martindale has been in independent practice as a psychologist since 1972. Between 1986 and 2000, his practice focused on performing evaluations of comparative custodial suitability for courts in the State of New York. Since 2000, Dr. Martindale has limited his practice to consulting with attorneys, psychologists and psychology licensing boards in the areas of child custody and professional standards. He has reviewed more than 1,500 evaluations and has served as a forensic psychological consultant in more than 100 licensing board actions and/or malpractice actions. He has written extensively on custody-related topics and regularly offers presentations for the American Academy of Forensic Psychology and for the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
About the Workshop
Attendees will learn:
- how to manage the initial contacts with attorneys and litigants
- key elements of a Statement of Understanding between the evaluator and the litigants
- ways to minimize the animosity that litigants often experience toward evaluators
- ethical practices that, if followed, are likely to reduce the risk of complaints against evaluators
- criteria to employ in selecting assessment instruments
- methods for maximizing the usefulness of collateral source information
- ways to provide information to fee-payers concerning what to anticipate from testifying evaluators.
This presentation will:
- Be useful both to beginners and to experienced evaluators
- Address pre-evaluation events and getting started on the right foot
- Discuss methods for avoiding misunderstandings concerning the evaluation process
- Cover the evaluation process from initial meeting to testimony
- Discuss methods for minimizing litigant hostility
- Emphasize the role of ethical standards and practice guidelines
- Provide suggestions concerning risk management procedures
