Notice to PAA Members: A continuing education reciprocity agreement between the PAA, the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA) and the Psychological Society of Saskatchewn (PSS) has been entered into between our respective associations offering registration to the three associations' respective continuing education programs at the same fees that each of these associations would charge to their own members.

Same Sex Domestic Violence Workshops

A one day workshop offered four times a year and geared for service providers to sensitize them to the unique issues faced by individuals involved in an intimate same-sex relationship that involves domestic violence.

The workshop is recognized by the Alberta College of Registered Social Workers for a total of 6(six), category "A", continuing competency credits.

Participants learn to use EMDR appropriately and effectively in a variety of applications. Such use is based on understanding the theoretical basis of
EMDR, safety issues, integration with a treatment plan, and supervised practice.

Learning Objectives: 

  • to understand the research and theoretical positions on EMDR.
  • to use the basic eight phase EMDR protocol, effectively and safely, and adapt it to special situations and populations.
  • to be familiar with variations on the basic protocol for special populations.
  • to understand legal and ethical considerations in the use of EMDR. 

Francine Shapiro, founder of EMDR, was awarded the CPA award in 2009 for her contribution to trauma therapy.
